Zootpeeple is a Jazz/Nu-Jazz combo in Jacksonville, Florida (known for the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchett, and southern rock in general) but don't let that fool you. Specializing in music that stirs the soul, the ZootPeeple sound is a complex mixture of yesterday, today, and tomorrow's limitless possibilities.
With more than fifty years of live performance experience Cal "ZOOT" Thompson has added his sultry saxophone signature to bands from California to Florida, including local bands like Cool Deluxe, the Mike Shackelford band, and Gunslinger.
After retiring from a very successful career as a computer software engineer and manager with music taking a secondary role, Cal has returned to his first love... making beautiful music!
In his own words "I never had the time to really concentrate on originals , or to explore all the possibilities for expressing my thoughts and emotions musically until I retired from my "day job". Man - I am having a blast! Wish I had another 65 years to play with but making the most of the talents God gave us is one of the most rewarding things any of us can do for ourselves and those whose lives we touch. As long as there is life, it is never too late to pursue your dreams, whatever they may be, and I would highly recommend it to anyone of any age"
While many of the ZootPeeple songs are written and performed solely by Cal, some are collaborative projects involving other talented artists who helped to create a particular flavor of ZootPeeple sound. As you browse through the biographies you'll get to know some of the "Peeple" Cal has brought into the ZootPeeple family.
Although primarily focused on recording projects, ZootPeeple will be available for live performances as schedules permit.
